Agro Supply is giving farmers in Africa the tools to scale in a climate change-affected future. Founded in 2017 by Joseph Ogwal, the Ugandan-based social enterprise is revolutionizing how rural farmers access and pay for agricultural inputs. It has developed a unique mobile layaway platform that allows farmers to incrementally save for essential farming supplies like seeds and fertilizer using their mobile phones, without the need for traditional credit.
By offering smaller, more affordable packages of high-quality agricultural products, Agro Supply ensures that even the smallest scale farmers can invest in their lands and improve their yields. To facilitate this innovative saving and purchasing model, the company utilizes scratch cards in a micro-saving scheme that aligns with local farmers’ financial capabilities.
With a robust network of over 140 village agents, Agro Supply has successfully onboarded more than 20,000 farmers, of which 48% are women. The company has also significantly enhanced rural farmers’ productivity and income—by over $500 US per acre. These efforts have not only increased food production but have also introduced climate-resilient crops, boosting food security in the region.
