Bruktawit Tigabu is an award-winning educational children's TV show producer, film director, animator and school teacher on a mission to improve education for millions of children in Ethiopia.
Formerly a school teacher, Bruktawit looked for ways to educate children in the country on a mass scale and co-founded, with her husband, the educational multimedia enterprise Whiz Kids Workshop in 2005.
Whiz Kids Workshop has gone on to develop internationally awarded television series, including Tsehai Loves Learning, their most famous program and the first educational preschool television program in the Ethiopia. They’ve also published over 100 books in 7 languages, produced radio programs, DVDs and teacher training – all to improve literacy, health education, gender equality and early childhood education.
Bruktawit has won many accolades for her work including the World Economic Forum’s “Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the year 2018”, one of Fast Company’s 2012 most creative people in business, and the Rolex Young Laureate Award in 2008. She is also a founding member of Social Enterprise Ethiopia.
